I&M Canal National Heritage Corridor Trip

Some Notes about this National Heritage Corridor:
1. "To dig a canal, at least four things are necessary - a pick, a shovel, a wheelbarrow, and an Irishman" (popular saying, 19th century).
2. Wages were a dollar a day.
3. The canal construction started on July 4, 1836.
4. In 1838, death took 1,000 of the 1,500 canal workers (by impure water, malaria, accidents, etc).
5. Finally, the canal was done in 1848, nearly 100 miles long connecting between Mississippi river and Michigan Lake.
6, A year after the canal was completed, the population of Chicago increased by 6 times. Soon, Chicago became the largest city in the Midwest and the largest city in between New York and New Orleans.

My first fever

In the middle of the night, I had my first fever. My face was red and hot and I was vomiting a bit. Dad and mom really had a scare. They called the hospital and got ready to send me to the emergency room. While we were waiting the doctor to call back, mom was trying to find info from the Baby 411 book, and calling my grandma in Taiwan for advice. After taking infant Tylenol, a couple sips of water, I started to cool down. Eventually, we saved a trip to the hospital.

Later today, I had felt a bit tired, but I gained my energy back by dinner time. I think I caught a cold. The weather changes rapidly lately. It was 90F one day, and dropped to 65F the next day.

Happy New Year of Pig!

We went to Chiao Hsi for hot spring and stay a 3 day 2 night at The Hotel Royal Chiao Hsi (礁溪老爺大酒店). We drove through the 雪山隧道 "Hsuehshan (English Translation: Snow Mountain) Tunnel", which is 12.9 km long and took 13 years to build.
I was too young to enjoy hot spring, but I got to relax and totally overcame my jet lag. It was a lot of fun!

My first few days in Taipei

We went to Dr. Sun Yat-San's Memorial the very next day of my arrival--I was having a jet lag.
Dad and I posed in front of a Japanese Garden inside the newly opened SOGO department store.
The family portrait was taken by Uncle Ian.
RenAi Road is one of the popular roads in Taipei.

4-month-old checkup & immunization shots

What a day! It is 0F outside and snowing--really cold and slippery. I had one oral immunization and 4 shots on my thighs--same as last time. I was very sleepy and in a bad mood during the whole time--Even Mr. Frog and Miss Duck couldn't make me feel better. Today is just not my day!
