Labor Day weekend to West Lake (杭州西湖遊)
The west lake is really a nice place to visit, but better be there on regular weekends. Traffic is not bad and food in general is good. Since I am having a minor fever, we cancel the one-day tour and enjoy a very relaxing day.

Touring the Shanghai Botanic Garden
It was a pretty warm day. We got a chance to visit the Shanghai Botanic Garden. This garden is much smaller in size and less quality than the Chicago Botanic Garden where we had visited quite often on weekends. There are still a lot to be improved in recreation and service sectors of this city.

Touring the Shanghai Zoo
The Panda is eating bamboo leaves. Due to kids shouting nearby, we feel sorry for the background noise.

My first day at school in Shanghai
This was my first day at this Wei Hai kindergarten (威海幼兒園). I only cried for a minute when Mom dropped me off, and I had enjoyed the whole day. Good job!

Tian Zi Fang (田子坊)
Today, we visited Tian Zi Fang (田子坊). It is famous for a variety of small stores (小店) and cuisines, therefore it attracts lots of foreign tourists.
The Bund
It has been a while since my last post. We have pretty much settled down in Shanghai. It was kind of windy this morning, but we still made our first trip around the Bund. Of course, I visited my Dad's office at the Bangkok Bank (the Bund No. 7).

The Royal Standard is embellished with a Phya-Khrut. Phya translates to "king," "ruler," or "lord." Khrut translates to Garuda; i.e. "a mythical bird with a human body and head, wings and talons of an eagle". The Phya Khrut is the national symbol of Thailand, and is such is to be displayed and handled with respect and care. Those few businesses – by definition large and influential ones – that display the Phya Khrut on the front of their buildings are privileged to do so as a consequence of explicit approval by the Thai government. Valentine's Day Party
We had a frozen yogurt social to celebrate Valentine's Day!

We were working on several love projects this week. The big heart was parents' homework. Look at the upper left corner of the big heart--Mom did the words, and I added stamps!

I no longer cry at school. I am not shy any more and feel very comfortable being with my friends. I enjoy hugging everyone I know.

Purdue visit
Mom took me back to Purdue to visit her old friends. We had a great time catching up with friends and also introducing myself to them. I received a lot of gifts from them.

We left on Friday afternoon, met with Bill and Anju. Had dinner with Yanjun and his family, and stayed at Dr. Tang's house. This picture was taken in the next morning--The Dora balloon and necklace were from Mrs. Tang, the cute sun glasses was from Lou Man. On Saturday, we also visited Jean, and Hui in addition to "city" tour.

That was where Mom used to work between year 2002 and 2004--Krannert School and Management. Mom's visitors took many pictures from this angle.

Mom taught Business Statistics in this classroom of the newly built Rawl's Hall in her last semester here.

Bird's views from the 2nd floor cafe in Rawl's Hall--Union, University Bookstore, Krannert Building.

Blackbird Farm 2421-E was where Mom lived for most of her time here. It looked the same as the first time Mom ever visited here.

This is the only Asian grocery store in town. Mom came here almost every week. It was very small but amazingly they had a lot of things. The size has been doubled.
This 3-hour drive each way, 2 days one night trip was short, and it was long overdue-Mom's first return after she left 4.5 years ago. It was certainly a nice closure to her before we move.
