From late last year, shared bike projects started to gain public attention in Shanghai. It indeed became an epic this year--at least 5 companies are competing the market. Among them, Mobike (orange) and ofo (yellow) are the two major players. They have various promotions, such as free-ride, ride for lottery, etc. We prefer ofo bikes. There is an age limit, which is 12 years old. Jolene needs to ride her bike (although it's actually not allowed for young kids to ride on the street). Aside from the convenience, the rapid growth of the shared bikes has created some problems, and parking everywhere is one of them. What I can say is we are lucky that we don't need to pull strollers or wheelchairs in Shanghai, otherwise, the pedestrian space has been taken almost half as bikes' parking space now. It's interesting to witness this epic after the "Didi" phenomanon a couple years ago.
